A passenger on a Delta Air Lines flight from Atlanta to Los Angeles allegedly attacked other travelers on Monday. The man reportedly bit one passenger and struck others shortly after the plane landed at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). According to airline and emergency officials, the man was restrained by the crew. He was then taken to the hospital for a psychological evaluation. Delta Air Lines stated they have a zero-tolerance policy for unruly behavior and will cooperate with law enforcement. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is now looking into the incident. The agency can impose civil penalties of up to $37,000 for each violation of unruly passenger regulations. In 2024, the FAA logged over 2,100 reports of unruly passengers. So far this year, more than 300 such cases have been reported. Unruly passenger incidents saw a significant rise during the COVID-19 pandemic, with nearly 6,000 cases in 2021. The FAA takes these incidents seriously and can pursue criminal charges against passengers who assault or threaten airline crew members.
