Parasite infected 74 after Wales farm visit
An outbreak of a parasitic infection has sickened 74 people and hospitalized 16 after they visited a farm in Wales. The farm has temporarily ceased public animal feeding activities. The infections are caused by cryptosporidium, a parasite often linked to contact with farm animals. Public Health Wales is investigating the outbreak, which began around April 30th, and the farm is cooperating. Symptoms, including diarrhea and vomiting, can appear 2-10 days after exposure and last up to two weeks. Public health officials advise those who visited the farm and feel unwell to seek medical attention.
