Parallel mass spectrometry prototype enhances sensitivity and throughput for proteomics and metabolomics

cen.acs.org

Researchers developed a prototype mass spectrometer with multiple inlets and outlets, inspired by cell nuclei, to overcome speed and sensitivity limitations. This parallelized ion trap, called MultiQ-IT, can trap significantly more ions than current instruments, potentially enabling new discoveries in proteomics and metabolomics. The technology is a proof of concept for parallelization in mass spectrometry, with future work needed to manage the increased data output.
