Pakistani man faces charges in $1 million telecom scam in Australia
A Pakistani man living in New South Wales, Australia, has been charged in connection with a telecom scam involving over $1 million. He appeared in court on November 28, accused of unlawfully acquiring personal financial information from more than 100 Australians. During a search of his home in Auburn, police found over $1 million in cash, 500 SIM cards, and 21 electronic devices containing financial documents. Victims reported receiving calls from someone posing as a telecom representative, offering device upgrades and requesting authorization PINs. The investigation was led by the Australian Federal Police, with support from the Joint Policing Cybercrime Coordination Centre and telecommunications companies Optus and TPG Telecom. The man is scheduled to appear in court again for further proceedings.
