Pakistan security crisis: Nearly 1,000 forces killed in 9 months

Pakistan faces a severe security crisis, with security force fatalities surpassing 1,000 in 2026, making it one of the deadliest years on record since 2000. Over 650 civilians have also died in violent incidents between January and September. Violence is concentrated in Baluchistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where insurgents target security installations and infrastructure. Attacks have risen sharply since 2022, following the Taliban's takeover of Afghanistan, with nearly 190 incidents reported in August alone. The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan seeks to unite Pashtun areas and impose Sharia rule, while Baloch insurgents attack rail and road networks. Total fatalities this year have reached 3,693, with roughly 78,000 killed in such incidents since records began.
