Over half of U.S. parks sit within two miles of polluting sites

A new study finds 52.6% of U.S. parks lie within two miles of toxic release sites, raising environmental health concerns. Using EPA and ParkServe data, researchers found 9.3% of parks have Toxics Release Inventory sites overlapping or within half a mile. Additionally, 2,442 parks (1.6%) directly overlap Superfund sites. Nearly 18% of parks are within two miles of Superfund sites. Researchers say green spaces and polluting sites are not mutually exclusive, requiring local attention and advocacy.
