Over $800 million pledged to combat mpox outbreak in Africa

The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention has received over $800 million in pledges to combat a rising mpox outbreak, surpassing its initial goal of $600 million. This funding comes as Africa reports over 32,000 suspected cases and 840 deaths this year. The U.S. will contribute $500 million and one million vaccine doses. The Africa CDC has also secured 4.3 million vaccine doses but needs over 10 million to effectively control the outbreak. The agency plans to adjust its response strategy as the outbreak spreads to more countries. Funding will be redistributed to ensure support reaches all affected and high-risk areas.
