Over 1.3 million Taiwanese motorcycle owners risk fines for lacking mandatory insurance

Over 1.3 million motorcycle owners in Taiwan have not insured their vehicles, risking fines. As of September 2025, only 90.83% of registered motorcycles had mandatory liability insurance, leaving over 1.34 million uninsured. Failure to comply can result in fines of NT$1,500 to NT$3,000. Uninsured vehicles may have their licenses revoked after six months past expiration. The insurance covers death, disability, and medical expenses for accident victims.
