Oregon sees decline in flu vaccinations this season
Oregon is experiencing its worst flu season in 15 years, with hospitalizations remaining high beyond the usual peak. Nearly 1,600 flu-related hospitalizations have been reported in the Portland metro area, three times more than last year. Despite the severity, fewer Oregonians are getting flu shots. Vaccinations have declined for the third consecutive year, with a 4% drop compared to last year. Health officials are concerned about a potential late-season surge. People aged 65 and older have the highest hospitalization rates, accounting for over half of the cases. Nationally, flu cases and hospitalizations are also high, with the CDC classifying this season as "high severity."
