Oregon audit removed over integrity concerns

A controversial cannabis audit has been removed from the Oregon Secretary of State's website. This decision follows concerns about the audit's integrity and objectivity, highlighted by new Secretary of State Tobias Read and Audits Director Steve Bergmann. The audit was linked to former Secretary of State Shemia Fagan's resignation in May 2023. Fagan had a consulting contract with cannabis company La Mota while the audit was ongoing, raising conflicts of interest. The Audits Division is now working on a new methodology for selecting audits. Changes are expected before the 2026-2027 audit plan is released next February. A redo of the audit may be considered after these updates.
