Orcas kill pygmy blue whale off Western Australia

A pod of over 60 killer whales attacked and killed an endangered pygmy blue whale off Western Australia, marking a rare recorded event. The attack, witnessed by a whale watching tour, occurred in Bremer Canyon on Monday and lasted less than 40 minutes. The orcas, known for their cooperative hunting, exhausted the blue whale before consuming it. This is only the fourth documented instance of orcas hunting blue whales in the area, highlighting their role as apex predators. Orcas have also been observed hunting whale sharks using collaborative techniques.
