Orange County official pleads guilty to bribery in COVID relief fund misuse
A county supervisor in Orange County, California, Andrew Do, has pleaded guilty to bribery related to a scheme misusing COVID-19 relief funds intended for the elderly. He resigned before entering the plea in federal court. Do admitted to accepting over $500,000 in bribes while facilitating funds for the Viet America Society, which claimed to provide meals for seniors. Investigators found that only 15% of the $9 million received by the group was actually used for meals. Do, a former prosecutor and city councilmember, is set to be sentenced on March 31. His daughter, Rhiannon Do, who was involved with the organization, is cooperating with authorities and will not face charges.
