Oppo and Honor to launch wide-screen phones after Huawei's 180K sales
Huawei sold over 180,000 units of its Pura X View wide-screen phone on its first day in China, prompting rivals Oppo and Honor to develop similar devices for 2026-27. The phone's success signals a shift away from traditional tall smartphone designs. Oppo's unnamed wide phone, reportedly launching with the Find X10 Ultra in early 2027, may feature a 200MP camera and 7,000mAh battery. The 6.39-inch Pura X View offers 16% more width than standard phones, better fitting vertical video, but costs $895 versus $1,600+ for foldables. The wide slab design improves video viewing, reading, and split-screen use, but hinders typing, one-handed operation, and pocket fit. Oppo and Honor face pricing pressure from rising memory chip costs, and US availability remains unlikely.
