OpenScholar AI model synthesizes scientific research with expert-level accuracy

An AI model named OpenScholar can synthesize scientific research and cite sources as accurately as human experts. Developed by UW and Ai2 researchers, OpenScholar is an open-source tool designed to process current scientific literature. In tests, it outperformed other AI models and was preferred over human-written responses by scientists over half the time. The research, published in Nature, addresses the challenge scientists face in keeping up with millions of annual publications. OpenScholar uses retrieval-augmented generation to access and cite new research, aiming to reduce AI "hallucinations."
