OpenAI prepares to launch GPT-5, also known as Orion, with advanced features
OpenAI is preparing to launch GPT-5, also known as Orion, which is expected to surpass its predecessor, GPT-4o. Orion will feature a larger context window, an expanded knowledge base, and improved reasoning abilities, with potentially 1.5 trillion parameters. The release of GPT-5 may be delayed until early 2025, contrary to earlier speculation of a December 2024 launch. Initial access may be limited to key partners like Microsoft, rather than the general public, similar to previous model rollouts. While GPT-5 aims to advance towards artificial general intelligence, experts note it still does not achieve true AGI. OpenAI continues to refine the model, which is anticipated to enhance multimodal capabilities, allowing it to process text, audio, and images simultaneously.
