Ontario plant linked to listeria outbreak closes and is put up for sale

theglobeandmail.com

A plant in Pickering, Ontario, linked to a deadly listeria outbreak in plant-based milks has permanently closed. The facility, along with three others owned by Joriki Inc., is now up for sale as the company restructures under creditor protection. The Pickering site ceased operations in August after public health officials connected it to the outbreak that resulted in 20 illnesses and three deaths. Joriki, which produced Silk and Great Value brand milks, has laid off most of its employees. Joriki owes over $203 million to creditors, including significant debts to the Bank of Nova Scotia and unpaid wages. The company cited challenges from the product recall and ongoing financial issues as reasons for its closure.
