Oman plans six new regional airports to boost tourism growth
Oman plans to build six new regional airports to accommodate a surge in tourism. This follows the opening of two airports in the past seven years. The new airports are expected to open between 2028 and 2029. In 2023, Oman welcomed over three million international tourists, a 41.2 percent increase from the previous year. The country aims to attract 50 million passengers by 2040, with significant investments in its tourism sector. One new airport will be located at Ras Al Musandam, near the strategic Straits of Hormuz. The focus has shifted from luxury resorts to more budget-friendly accommodations, reflecting changing tourist preferences.
