Older women risk scalp ringworm at salons

Older women visiting hair salons are at risk of contracting scalp ringworm, a fungal infection. The infection, often spread through shared combs, causes hair breakage and red patches, and requires months of antifungal medication for treatment. Reduced scalp oil production and weakened immunity in older women increase susceptibility, but children and pets can also be sources of infection.
