Oldebroek raises rainbow flag for Coming Out Day, but not at town hall

nos.nl (Dutch) —

Oldebroek will raise the rainbow flag for Coming Out Day, but not at the town hall, after the conservative Christian council voted to end LGBT policy and flag-raising. The council, led by the Christian Verbond Oldebroek, SGP, and Algemeen Belang Oldebroek, decided last week to proceed "without woke expressions." Mayor Tanja Haseloop-Amsing will attend the flag-raising at the Kruiskerk, citing her independent role as "burgermoeder" to ensure community integrity. The church event, held Saturday out of respect for Sunday rest, has drawn over 250 flag requests. Resident Kjeld Mooi, who protested the policy change in July, received broad support from local LGBT residents who feel forced to hide their orientation.
