A wearable device using low-intensity electric fields slowed tumor growth and spread in preclinical models of triple-negative breast cancer, offering a potential noninvasive treatment. The Ohio State University study found the drug-free treatment also made the tumor environment more cancer-fighting, reducing immune-suppressing cells and increasing anti-cancer immune cells. Findings appeared in Breast Cancer: Targets and Therapy. Unlike existing electric-field treatments requiring contact electrodes, the wearable generates fields externally. Researchers plan an NIH-sponsored human clinical trial with EMBioSys Inc.; the technology remains early-stage.
