Ohio governor seeks free driver education in schools
Ohio Governor Mike DeWine is proposing to reinstate driver education in public schools. This change aims to eliminate the $500-700 cost families face for private driving schools, which have largely taken over driver education since it was removed from high schools. Currently, drivers under 18 must complete a driver education course from an approved school to obtain a license. DeWine's plan would use state funding to help schools offer these classes or partner with private providers. The governor's initiative responds to concerns about the availability and affordability of driver education. He noted that many teens are delaying obtaining their licenses, leading to increased crashes among young drivers.
