Officer subdues crowbar suspect in Brixton as Met cracks down in Lambeth and Southwark

A London police officer tackled a drug suspect who hit him in the face with a crowbar during an arrest; the 28-year-old was later bailed. The suspect, stopped while riding a stolen moped in Brixton, carried MDMA, cocaine, pink cocaine, cannabis and £1,500. He fled during a search after discarding the drugs, then allegedly struck the officer with the crowbar before being subdued. The arrest is part of Operation Gallium, a week-long Met crackdown that made 297 arrests and seized 38 weapons, amid rising gang tensions in Lambeth and Southwark.
