NYPD heroes honored at PBA's Finest of the Finest ceremony

nypost.com —

Dozens of NYPD officers were honored for bravery at the Police Benevolent Association's Finest of the Finest ceremony in Queens, including Officer Grant Pulgarin, who tackled a suspected terrorist after an explosive device was thrown outside Gracie Mansion. Pulgarin ran toward the danger and subdued the suspect with a tackle after a fuse-lit bomb was hurled into a crowd during an ISIS-inspired attack on March 17. Other honorees included officers who shot a meat cleaver-wielding suspect after he stabbed four children in Brooklyn, and an off-duty officer who rescued two people from a fiery crash. Officer Joseph Wetzel, who was on medical leave for cancer treatment, broke a car window with an emergency tool to save a driver and passenger after a crash in Wantagh, Long Island. All victims in the incidents survived, and the PBA president praised the officers for facing dangers that critics of policing have never encountered.
