Nova Scotia committee reports progress on mass shooting inquiry recommendations
A committee monitoring responses to the 2020 Nova Scotia mass shooting has released its first annual report. Chairwoman Myra Freeman noted a "serious commitment" from governments and the RCMP to address the inquiry's 130 recommendations. The report evaluates progress in three key areas: gender-based violence, firearm access, and police oversight. It covers 24 of the recommendations, highlighting ongoing public safety priorities. The committee was formed in 2023, with Freeman appointed as chair in May 2024. She emphasized that while progress is being made, significant work remains to be done.
