Northeastern University to replace Boston's Matthews Arena
Northeastern University plans to sell up to $650 million in municipal bonds to replace the historic Matthews Arena, which opened in 1910. The new facility will host sports teams and other events, seating 4,050 for hockey and 5,300 for basketball. The university aims to finance $400 million for the new athletics complex and $100 million for other campus projects. The remaining funds will be reserved for future initiatives. Approval from Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey is required for the bond sales to move forward.
