North Wildwood and New Jersey reach agreement to improve resort town's beaches
North Wildwood, a New Jersey resort town, may soon resolve a long-standing dispute over its beaches. Mayor Patrick Rosenello announced an agreement with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection to drop mutual claims and focus on beach widening efforts. The agreement, pending a council vote, would cancel a $12 million fine against North Wildwood and end a lawsuit over $30 million spent on emergency sand repairs. The town will also contribute $1 million to future federal beach replenishment costs. North Wildwood has not received a full beach replenishment project from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, partly due to easement issues. The agreement aims to streamline the permitting process for additional shore protection work.
