North West constable with dual degrees inspires new generation of police leaders

The South African Police Service (SAPS) has spotlighted 27-year-old Constable Cleone Petersen, a Public Order Policing officer in Potchefstroom, North West, as an inspiring figure for a new generation of police leaders. Petersen, who joined SAPS in 2022, holds two Bachelor of Arts degrees in Public Governance, specialising in Public Administration, Labour Relations Management and Policing Practice. Her academic background strengthens her focus on accountability, modern policing and building public trust in her role managing crowds and maintaining peace. Born and raised in Potchefstroom, Petersen described joining SAPS as a calling to serve her community. She aims to take on leadership roles, mentor young recruits and drive innovation, with SAPS noting her journey reflects its Reset Agenda.
