North Korean propaganda lured her uncle to his death

yle.fi (Swedish) —

Hyangsu Park's uncle was lured to North Korea by propaganda and disappeared; she later learned he was tortured to death, and his family was sent to a political prison camp. Do Seok-geun moved to North Korea in 1967 as part of a campaign that attracted over 90,000 zainichi-Koreans, promised housing, jobs, and free healthcare. Park visited him in 1990, finding him miserable and his family living in poor conditions. Park's uncle was taken away in early 1996, and his wife and children were sent to Yodok camp later that year. A defector reported seeing them alive but severely emaciated in 2009.
