North Korea builds nuclear-capable destroyer, expands naval power
North Korea launched its new Choe Hyon-class guided-missile destroyer, a move signaling a significant expansion of its naval capabilities. The warship is capable of launching nuclear-capable missiles. The 5,000-ton destroyer, built in just over a year, is equipped with a 127mm naval gun, the Pantsir-M air defense system, and 82 vertical launch system cells. These cells can launch strategic missiles. In response to the launch, the United States is increasing its F-16 presence at Osan Air Base to counter potential threats from North Korea and China.
