Norfolk International Airport completes $65 million runway upgrade to boost capacity and efficiency

Norfolk International Airport has completed a $65 million upgrade to its primary runway, part of the "TransformORF" project. The renovation, which began in April 2023, enhances runway durability and operational efficiency for the next 20 years. The project involved resurfacing two segments of Runway 05/23 with stronger asphalt, improving safety and functionality. The work was phased to minimize disruptions, ensuring the runway remained operational during winter. The airport is also expanding its facilities, including a new concourse and parking garage, to accommodate growing passenger numbers. By September 2023, traffic was on track to match pre-pandemic levels.
