Nolan's 'The Odyssey' grosses $1.1B globally, setting personal and IMAX records

Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ grossed $1.1 billion, becoming his highest-grossing film ever and Imax’s all-time biggest release with $289 million. It surpasses ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ ($1.08B) and Imax’s ‘Avatar’ ($271M), unadjusted. The R-rated epic has earned $461M domestic and $643M overseas, and is second this year behind ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’. The film, starring Matt Damon, is the first feature shot entirely with Imax cameras. It opens in China on Aug. 14; previews there added $6.3 million. Nolan’s films total about $7 billion globally.
