Noida warns buckwheat flour manufacturers of legal action over safety concerns
Noida's food safety department has warned eight buckwheat flour manufacturers against selling products older than 15 days. This measure aims to prevent illness ahead of Mahashivratri on February 26, when many consume buckwheat flour. Manufacturers selling substandard flour may face legal action, including FIRs, if consumers fall ill. The department plans random sampling of buckwheat flour in markets to ensure safety compliance. Food poisoning cases linked to stale buckwheat flour have risen 40% during festive seasons over the past five years. In March 2024, around 250 students fell ill after consuming contaminated flour.
