Nigerian security forces rescued over 300 abducted people in a joint operation, which President Bola Ahmed Tinubu hailed as the largest single-day hostage recovery in the country’s history. The military-police-counterterrorism operation freed captives in Kainji Lake national park forests. Among survivors were 163 people abducted in February from Woro village in Kwara state and 145 seized mainly from Niger state; they are receiving medical checks. Kidnapping for ransom is endemic in Nigeria’s north. A SBM Intelligence report recorded at least 4,722 kidnappings from July 2024 to June 2025. Tinubu faces re-election in January amid worsening insecurity.
