NGT orders UP to provide Ganga drain data
The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has given the Uttar Pradesh government two more weeks to submit complete data on drains polluting the Ganga River. The state's initial report was deemed insufficient. The NGT is demanding detailed information on drains in ten districts, including their names, sewage discharge quantities, and plans for sewage treatment plants (STPs). The government previously promised to provide this data, but the submitted information was incomplete. The tribunal's order follows a petition regarding Ganga pollution and seeks a specific timeline for addressing the issue. The NGT wants the state to detail when drains will be tapped and untreated sewage flow stopped.
