New York Thruway Authority enhances winter safety measures for plow trucks

The New York State Thruway Authority is enhancing safety measures for winter weather, responding to an average of 15 plow accidents per year. New bright green lights will be added to 250 plow trucks to improve visibility during snowstorms. Additionally, a pilot program called 'iCone' will alert drivers about nearby plow trucks through navigation apps like Google Maps and Waze. This aims to reduce vehicle contact with plows. Thruway officials remind drivers to maintain a safe distance from plow trucks, which travel at a maximum speed of 35 mph. They emphasize the importance of caution during winter driving conditions.
