A fire broke out on a subway train at New York City's Astor Place station early Tuesday morning, sending 11 people to the hospital and causing service disruptions on parts of the 4 and 6 lines. The fire started before 2:15 a.m. on a vacuum train used to clear debris from the tracks, according to the FDNY. Six MTA employees and five firefighters were hospitalized, while one other MTA worker refused treatment after an on-site check. Service was suspended in both directions between Grand Central–42 St. and Brooklyn Bridge–City Hall stations but resumed around 6:40 a.m. The FDNY deployed 46 units and raised a second alarm; the cause remains under investigation, with severe delays expected.
