New York launches rebate program for energy-efficient dryers for low-income residents
New York Governor Kathy Hochul has launched a new rebate program for low- and moderate-income residents purchasing energy-efficient clothes dryers. The Appliance Upgrade Program offers incentives for replacing old, inefficient dryers with Energy Star-certified models that use heat pumps. Eligible households can receive up to $840 for the purchase and installation of new dryers. Additional incentives for electrical upgrades can reach up to $4,000. The program is funded by federal money from the Inflation Reduction Act and aims to promote energy efficiency. Starting in 2025, the program will expand to include more clean-energy appliances and allow apartment building owners to apply for rebates. New York is the first state to offer such rebates, demonstrating a commitment to energy transition.
