New York increases workers' compensation and paid family leave benefits in 2025

New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced increases in workers' compensation and paid family leave benefits starting January 1, 2025. The minimum weekly benefit for workers' compensation will rise to $325, up from $275 in 2024. Paid family leave benefits will also increase, allowing eligible employees to receive up to $14,127.84, a $300 increase from the previous year. Employees will receive 67% of their average weekly wage, capped at the state's average wage. Additionally, the workers' compensation assessment rate for employers will decrease by 22% to 7.1%. This change could save businesses around $191 million, reflecting a significant reduction since 2019.
