New York City enforces congestion pricing with fines for license plate violations
New York City has implemented a congestion pricing toll program, charging drivers $9 to access busy areas during peak hours. The program began this month and includes additional fees for trucks and rideshare services. Police are enforcing the new law, issuing 82 summonses, including 29 for drivers attempting to cover their license plates to avoid the toll. Two arrests were made for using forged license plates. New rules are proposed to penalize obstructed license plates, with fines of $50 for violations. Lyft is offering a $1.50 credit for users paying the congestion fee in January to help offset costs.
