New tool predicts coral bleaching five to six months in advance. This offers crucial lead time for reef protection efforts. Researchers developed the Bleaching Event Early Predictor (BEEP) by monitoring three major Pacific and Atlantic climate patterns. Their alignment intensifies ocean warming, signaling future bleaching events. This advance warning allows managers to move corals to safer locations. The tool, currently for Curaçao, could be adapted for other tropical reefs.
