New rules cut public sector vacation voucher eligibility in Romania

New rules for 2026 have significantly reduced the number of public sector employees eligible for vacation vouchers. The net salary cap for these vouchers has been lowered from 8,000 lei to 6,000 lei per month. Eligible employees include those in public administration, education, health, public order, defense, and contractual public institution staff meeting the salary threshold. The vouchers are worth 800 lei annually, usable only in Romania at authorized tourist units, and valid for 12 months. The program aims to support middle-income workers and boost domestic tourism.
