New quantum chip could enable computers by 2027

livescience.com

British scientists at Oxford Ionics have developed a new ion-trap quantum computing chip that outperforms existing models, achieving single-qubit gate fidelities of 99.9992% and two-qubit gate fidelities of 99.97%. This chip, which eliminates the need for lasers and can be mass-produced using standard semiconductor processes, could enable usable quantum computers by 2027. The findings were published on July 10, 2024.
