New Jersey accountant sentenced to prison for failing to pay taxes on embezzled funds
A New Jersey accountant, Thomas Kohutich, was sentenced to one year and a day in prison for failing to pay taxes on embezzled funds. He must also pay over $1 million in restitution, including $234,821 to the IRS. Kohutich, 34, pleaded guilty to filing false tax returns for 2018 and 2019. He did not report income he embezzled from his employer, a manufacturing company, which has not been named. His attorney stated that Kohutich's actions were linked to an undiagnosed online gambling addiction. Kohutich reportedly returned over $250,000 to the company from his gambling winnings before his arrest.
