New Elevators Open at 72nd Street Subway Station on Upper West Side

patch.com —

Two new elevators have opened at the 72nd Street subway station on the Upper West Side, serving the 1, 2 and 3 trains and providing updated access between the street and both platforms. One elevator connects the street to the downtown platform, while the other serves the uptown platform. The project replaced elevator cabs, operating equipment, glass enclosures and canopies, and upgraded electrical and mechanical systems to improve reliability. The MTA completed the work on budget and added remote monitoring, fire alarms, intercoms and cameras for security. This marks the agency's 24th elevator replacement this year, with 163 fully accessible stations now in operation.
