New detector hunts dark matter in Alps

space.com

A new, highly sensitive dark matter detector has been deployed deep beneath the French Alps to expand the search for elusive dark matter particles. This advanced detector utilizes silicon skipper charged-couple devices, capable of detecting signals from single electrons, to hunt for lighter dark matter candidates. Its underground location shields it from background radiation. The project, a proof-of-concept prototype, aims to scale up to a full experiment called DAMIC-M, potentially becoming the most sensitive detector for "WIMPier" particles.
