New app helps parents in Singapore check for jaundice in newborns at home
A new app is being tested in Singapore to help parents check for jaundice in newborns at home. Neonatal jaundice affects 60% of infants and is usually detected through clinic visits. The app, BiliSG, measures skin yellowness from multiple body areas. The app was developed to accommodate the skin tones of Asian babies, improving accuracy compared to existing apps. Initial tests showed it accurately identified jaundice in nearly 550 babies, with no significant cases missed. Further testing will occur over the next 18 months, involving about 2,000 babies across various phone models. The app aims to enhance comfort for parents while monitoring their infants' health.
