Netanyahu accuses security chief of unauthorized investigation
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has accused Israel's internal security chief, Ronen Bar, of investigating National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir without his approval. This claim comes after the Supreme Court blocked Bar's dismissal. Netanyahu denied allegations that he authorized Bar to gather evidence against Ben Gvir. He described these claims as "another exposed lie" in a statement released by his office. The Prime Minister also expressed concern that Bar’s actions could undermine democracy in Israel. Ben Gvir reacted strongly, calling Bar a "criminal" and a "liar" through a post on social media platform X. He accused Bar of attempting a conspiracy against elected officials and criticized the investigation as an attack on democracy. The Supreme Court's decision to freeze the government’s move to fire Bar has increased political tensions in Israel. The action came shortly after the government, one of the most right-wing in the country’s history, supported Netanyahu's proposal to dismiss Bar, citing a loss of confidence in him.
