Nearly 1,000 applicants seek homes at Dublin's Shanganagh Castle development

Nearly 1,000 people have applied to buy homes at Shanganagh Castle, Dublin's most expensive affordable housing development. Prices for three-bedroom homes reach €495,000, which is €20,000 higher than similar homes in a previous scheme. The Shanganagh development offers subsidies for buyers with incomes over €111,000, unlike other schemes with strict income limits. The council will invest up to €165,000 in equity for lower-income buyers, allowing them to purchase homes with incomes starting at €76,000. Of the 597 homes, 91 are for sale under the affordable purchase scheme, with 70% allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. The remaining homes will be available for cost-rental housing and social housing next year.
