NCPA Stage Adaptation of 'The Spring River Flows East' Premieres in September
The National Centre for the Performing Arts announced on August 3 that its stage adaptation of the classic 1947 Chinese film "The Spring River Flows East" will premiere from September 26 to October 4, 2026, as part of its international drama season. The production, directed by Wang Ban who also stars as the male lead, features actors Zeng Li, Yu Mingjia, and Cheng Lisha. The creative team aims to blend realistic detail with poetic aesthetics, using contrasting stage spaces and imagery of moonlight and rivers to explore themes of human nature during wartime. The play marks the third installment in the NCPA's classic film adaptation series. It will also feature actor Ding Yongdai, known for roles in popular TV dramas, alongside a cast of established stage performers.
