National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University students develop phone-based system to detect carotid artery stenosis

National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University students won an international award for a non-contact system detecting carotid artery stenosis using a phone camera. The system analyzes blood flow changes from images, offering early detection of narrowing arteries. This aims to shift medical focus from treatment to prevention. The competition, co-organized by NYCU and the University of Illinois, featured 45 teams globally. NYCU's medical department secured fifth place, the highest for a Taiwanese team.
